Abstract:

It begins with a critical review of the literature on knowledge management, arguing that its focus on IT to create a network structure may limit its potential to promote knowledge sharing among social. Two cases of interactive innovation are contrasted. One focused almost entirely on using IT (intranet) for knowledge sharing, resulting in a plethora of independent intranets which reinforced the existing social and organizational boundaries with electronic “fences”. In the other, while that was used to provide a network to promote the exchange, there was also recognition of the importance of face “for the exchange of tacit knowledge. The emphasis was on encouraging active networking among communities dispersed, rather than relying on computer networks. advocates a community model of knowledge management for interactive innovation and contrasts with the cognitive basis underlying many led by the knowledge management initiatives.

Main asset of a software organization is its intellectual capital, as it is in sectors such as consulting, law, investment banking, and advertising. The major problem with intellectual capital is that it has legs and walks every day. At the same rate experience walks out the door, inexperience walks in the door. Whether or not many software organizations admit they face the challenge of maintaining the level of skill required to win contracts and fulfill business.
